Occupational Safety
Ms. Leek (Industrial and Agricultural Technology Program) is a doctoral student in the Iowa State University Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering College. Angela’s academic history includes completion of the Radiologic Technology program at the University of Iowa in 1996, a BA degree in Business Management from William Penn University in 2001, and her MS degree in Radiation Health Physics from Oregon State University in 2014. Angela is a Certified Health Physicist and is currently the Bureau Chief for Radiological Health at the Iowa Department of Public Health. Her research interests are related to radiation safety and protection, specifically exploring the mental models that workers and first responders hold toward radiation risk and working in radiation environments. Angela hopes this work will provide insights into how training may be adapted to address identified perceptions and improve retention of the knowledge and skills necessary to appropriately manage radiation exposures and respond to radiation incidents.
