People in more densely populated urban areas are at higher risk for heart and lung disease due to air pollution from things like combustion reactions, wildfires, and smokestacks emitting disease-causing particles. Patrick O’Shaughnessy, Director of Heartland Center for Occupational Safety and Health, comments on particulate pollution, “We can’t stop breathing the air we are forced to breathe.”
