SUMMARY:Respirator Development in the Time of COVID-19
DESCRIPTION:About the webinar:\n\n\nThe COVID-19 pandemic presented unique challenges in efforts to protect both workers and the public. A lack of respirators for health-care workers spurred research on the development of alternatives to the N95 respirator as well as methods to decontaminate them for multiple uses. This presentation will summarize those efforts and provide suggestions for the future. \n\n\n\nLearning Objectives:\n\n\nAt the completion of this activity\, the learner will be able to: \n\n\n– Discuss the physical mechanisms applied to capture particles with the use of an N95 respirator\n– Describe the relationship between capture efficiency and breathing resistance\n– Identify methods for decontaminating respirators\n– Describe options for protecting the public and healthcare workers now and during future pandemics \n\n\n\nSpeaker: Patrick O’Shaughnessy\, PhD\n\n\nProfessor O’Shaughnessy joined the faculty at the University of Iowa in 1997 where he is a faculty member in the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health. He obtained licensure as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) in 2008. With over 75 publications in peer-reviewed literature\, Dr. O’Shaughnessy is a recognized scholar in the field of aerosol physics and human exposure assessment applied to occupational and environmental health concerns. One aspect of his current research is associated with evaluating the effectiveness of filtering facepiece respirators in various work environments\, and\, most recently\, their effectiveness for protecting the wearer from inhaling the COVID-19 virus.

SUMMARY:Safety is a 4 Letter Word
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a free 1-hour webinar on safety culture presented by Mark Breslin. Learn strategies to improve culture and collaboration. \nThis program examines the critical roles of culture\, buy-in\, and accountability that have taken safety from a resented afterthought to a primary value system for top organizations. The presentation identifies specific strategies to reinforce a culture over compliance\, engage and collaborate across lines and out of silos\, and finally encourage constructive and transparent accountability – including peer to peer on the job efforts. The four-letter word is not rule. It is not fear. It is CARE. The evolution of culture is significantly being impacted as well by demographic changes\, workplace expectations\, and giving people a lot more than a paycheck to bring their best.

SUMMARY:8-Hour Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) Training Course
DESCRIPTION:The Construction ICRA program was developed in response to the needs of the medical community and the contractors that serve it. Inadequate procedures during an occupied healthcare facility construction project can cause fatalities if contaminants are released into the environment. More than 100\,000 people are killed by hospital-acquired infections annually in the United States and Canada. \nThis 8-hour ICRA awareness class promotes communication\, awareness\, and protocol required for working in an occupied health care facility\, as well as outlining protection methods and safe work practices for the various trades and hospital personnel working in these types of facilities. Participation in the course is free and lunch is provided.
